Foodbank

What is a Foodbank?

A Foodbank is a store of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food, which has been donated by the community, for the community.

Foodbanks can also offer additional support to help break the cycle of poverty by putting people in touch with relevant agencies who can offer further support in times of crisis.

The South Liverpool Foodbank will enable us to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable sections of our community.

How it works

  • Food is donated by the people of South Liverpool, by:
    • Individual donations
    • Collections by volunteer teams at Organised Supermarket Collection Events
    • Collections from Churches and Schools
  • Volunteers check, sort and pack the food into bags containing enough nutritionally balanced food for 3 days.
  • We partner with front-line care professionals, who identify people in crisis and give them a Foodbank Voucher.
  • People can then take their Voucher to a Foodbank where they will receive:
    • a warm welcome
    • a hot drink
    • a food bag
    • a safe place to chat, if required
